Some History About Our Troop

Founded on March 1, 1998, Troop 256 is part of the Topsanah District of the Longhorn Council, Boy Scouts of America. We are chartered by Flower Mound United Methodist Church. Currently, we have over 60 boys in the troop with an average of 35-40 attending each meeting. During our rich history we have had the opportunity to assist over 45 boys obtain their Eagle Scout rank.

Where And When Do We Meet?

We hold troop meetings Mondays at 7:00PM at Flower Mound United Methodist Church - 3950 Bruton Orand Blvd. We're located in the community of Flower Mound, Texas. Click this link for a location in Google Maps to show you how to get to our meeting location. Here is a link to the church web site with some more information about how to get there.

How Do I Join the Troop?

One of the best ways to find out about the troop is just to come to a troop meeting. All are welcome, and you can ask any of the adult leaders about the mechanics of joining the troop, as well as meet many of the boys who are members of the troop. Alternatively, if you have difficulty getting to a meeting or prefer to find out more, please send an email to the contact emails listed at the top of the page.

How is Troop 256 Different?

We’re a large active troop, as mentioned, with quite a bit of boy and adult participation. We have a regular weekly troop meeting that is well attended, and we target a camp out or activity at least once a month. We have active participation in district and council activities, such as camporees, jamborees, merit badge colleges, etc.

Troop 256 is also a boy-run troop. This means that the elected boy leaders of the troop plan and implement the troop's activities. The trained adult leaders are there for safety and to assist the boys as resources and guides, not to run the troop. This approach helps instill core BSA values such as leadership and organization by doing rather than simply by teaching.

This Isn’t Much Of A Web Site!

This is our introductory visitor’s page. We use a service called Troop Web Host to share information amongst ourselves like pictures, our calendar, group announcements, scout account balances, etc. For privacy reasons, you need to be a registered member of the troop to access this site.
